Synopsis

Locked within a money vault, Sonic struggles to break free. As no one appears to be coming to his aid, he wonders if this is the end for him.

Twelve hours earlier, Maddie leaves the house to go to the clinic. Before doing so, she tells Sonic to stay out of trouble until Tom and Wade returned from their trip. Sonic promises to do so and give himself some "me time". However, Sonic slowly begins to get restless and after seven minutes, he gets fed up. With this, he plots to sneak out of the house to socialize with the townspeople and asks Ozzie not to say anything or he will no longer give him the scraps off of his table. According to Sonic, the public "loves" interacting with him, even though the only people he is actually allowed to interact with are the ones he makes from inanimate objects. Some people believe that he is an escaped government experiment, while others consider him to be a hallucination. The current relationship is that Sonic stays out of sight, but the eateries offer an open-door policy for him. The hedgehog dashes around Green Hills, creating horror-based looking snowmen and takes a donut from the store to recreate "Sgt. Sprinkles". He talks to the donut about how he occasionally uses his powers to protect the townspeople from evil, even though he has only done this once.

"Sgt. Sprinkles" attempts to convince Sonic that he is a hero, to which Sonic is flattered by. However, the hedgehog wishes to be a real hero, with a tough-sounding name like "The Electric Hog." While "Sgt. Sprinkles" tells Sonic that the name sounds cool, Crazy Carl tells him that "Blue Devil" is still the best name for him. Sonic considers the name to be better than "Crazy Carl", to which the old man states that he is not as crazy as he looks. Feeling down, Sonic says that he thought coming out of hiding would be more exciting. "Sgt. Sprinkles" looks on the bright side, as he could have gone ice fishing with Tom and Wade in Walla Walla, which he would have found boring. Meanwhile in Walla Walla, a bank is taken over by a group of thugs and the people inside are taken hostage. However, the thugs claim that they are not after money. One of the thugs named Jason forces one of the hostages, Lindsey, to come with him to the vault. In the vault, Jason opens safety deposit box number 203 to find a fully functioning Robotnik Control Glove that belongs to Dr. Robotnik. Jason reveals that he and his crew were sent by a client to retrieve this glove but he decides to make use of it before returning it.

At the edge of town, Tom and Wade are busy fishing. Tom wonders if all the problems in life could be solved if one achieves one pure moment of tranquility while Wade talks about how awesome it would be if they asked the federal government to give them a police chopper. Tom states that he has had enough airborne action after falling off of a skyscraper. Wade resolves to just stick by the police scanner, believing he could one day heed the call to adventure. Suddenly, the pair hear an A.P.B. for any available units in Walla Walla to aid against an armed robbery at the first bank of Walla Walla. Wade gets excited over this call, prompting Tom to ask him to calm down as he did not wish to deal with another hyperactive daredevil. The pair get in their vehicle and drive down to aid the police. Back in Green Hills, Sonic hears about the hostage situation in Walla Walla from a news channel and resolves to run all the way there to handle the situation himself. At the bank, Jason is informed that the cops have the whole place surrounded and is asked by a crew member about the escape route that was promised to them. Jason tells him to relax as he is still figuring out how to work the glove. Nearby, Lindsey convinces herself that the situation will all be over in a few minutes. She is suddenly met by Sonic, who states it will be over much sooner. The startled Lindsey is told by the hedgehog that she has no need to be alarmed with the "Super Streak" in her presence.

Lindsey is not impressed with the name and wonders if this alludes to Sonic being naked. While stating that he is still workshopping it, Sonic tells Lindsey that he has enough experience to take care of the thugs. He is told by her that the leader is still in the vault. Sonic runs all around the vault looking for the leader, only to be shocked by a taser by Lindsey. She angrily tells Jason that not only did his time wasting blow her cover but it was also attracting people like Sonic to them; she demands him to hurry up with the glove configuration and get them extracted from the building. He tells her that he is almost done, leading Lindsey to make a call to their client. She updates him on how they are surrounded by cops and her cover has been blown. Additionally, she believes someone has sent some kind of "giant blue chipmunk" after them. The client states that a creature with that sort of description would be of interest to him and says that he is willing to pay extra if he is delivered to him in one piece. Lindsey says that she can do this but wants an extra half a million dollars in cryptocurrency to be sent to her wallet, along with an extraction plan. A dazed Sonic is soon locked within the vault.

Outside the bank, Tom and Wade arrive on the scene, with the latter noting that it reminds him of a movie. Tom tells Wade to become serious before they begin to interact with the situation. One of the police officers there talks about how there have been no demands or confirmation of the number of people involved; there has only been a total communications blackout, which greatly confuses her as to what the thugs were doing inside. Tom introduces himself and Wade to the police officer, with Wade asking for what kind of situation it is and noting that he would be up for helping with a bomb defusing. Just then, Jason manages to finally get the glove working and summons three Badniks his way. Tom, Wade, and the police officer see the Badniks fly overhead, prompting the officer to ask if they can take care of the drones. Recognizing the design of the drones, Tom notes that they have had experience against them. While Sonic struggles to open the vault door, the Badniks use grapples to hook onto the vault and drag the entire thing out of the building. Surprised at the revelation, Lindsey takes the glove wondering what else the it could do. Jason says that they should forget about their buyer and instead use the glove to make much more than what he was paying by stealing the vault and everything in it; Lindsey agrees.

Inside the vault, Sonic decides to run circles around the interior, forcing the vault and the Badniks and spin right around in place. This creates quite a great cyclone effect outside, forcing the others to take cover. Jason and Lindsey wonder what the drones were doing and soon find the vault to be dropped back into the building, unable to keep up the pressure. The dazed Sonic considers the struggle with the vault to be a draw. Jason asks if Sonic would last much longer in there, to which Lindsey states that he will not for long. Deciding that breaking out of a bank was much cooler than breaking into one, Sonic charges up and performs a spin attack to break out of the vault. He offers the thugs two ways to deal with the current situation; the easy way or the hard way, which is traveled only by "Hedgehog the Unkillable". As Jason does not find this name intimidating, Sonic asks if it is too "avenging vigilante". With this, Lindsey activates the glove. Outside, Wade notices that though the noise has died down, the Badniks were still out and about. Fed up with not getting to enjoy his vacation, Tom takes up his fishing rod and manages to destroy two Badniks by hooking onto one and pulling it into the second. He misses the third Badnik that flies back inside the bank.

As the thugs point their guns at Sonic, he asks if they would actually shoot what he is pretty sure is an endangered species. Not giving them a chance to answer, Sonic makes quick work of the group and pins down Jason to ask about where he got the glove from. He tells the hedgehog that he heard about it on the dark web. A Badnik flies by Lindsey's side and she orders it to attack Sonic. The Badnik instead uses its extended arm to grab a hold of the glove and carry Lindsey into the air as she struggles with it. Sonic states that the Badniks had only one master and he did not like to share. Sonic forces the thugs to walk out and get themselves arrested, while telling them and the hostages not to mention his presence. Tom enters the bank to force the thugs to surrender, only to be shocked that they are already in the process of surrendering themselves just as he walks in. Sonic returns to the site of the vault to see that Lindsey has lost the glove and is now falling. He catches her as he did not believe she deserved death. He says that if Lindsey was not so bad at crime, he would have suspected that she was actually distracting him to let the Badnik get away. However, while dropping her onto the floor, Sonic firmly believes that the day has been saved. Stating that Lindsey will face time for her actions, Sonic rebrands himself as "Blue Justice". Lindsey pleads with Sonic, saying that she will surrender if he stops talking.

The Badnik that got away returns to the client, who is revealed to be Agent Stone, and gives him Robotnik's glove. At the crime scene, Wade congratulates Tom on being a hero again and states that the next time a killer robot shows up, he will take it down with something like a blow dart or a boomerang. However, Tom is more concerned with the fact that there are still more of Robotnik's technology still around and wonders how many more of these incidents they would have to deal with. Because of this, Tom resolves not to tell Sonic about any of this, believing that there will be a bigger mess if the hedgehog attempted to track them down. The police officer from before notes that she could not follow the conversation properly but offers donuts to the duo for helping out. However, she finds that all of the donuts have been taken. It is revealed that Sonic took them as he runs back home.

Synopsis

In Green Hills, after receiving Dr. Robotnik's Robotnik Control Glove from one of his Badniks, Agent Stone finds a flash drive attached to it. On the flash drive, Stone reads a manifesto created by Robotnik prior to defeat as a contingency plan to control the weaker minded individuals of America. Robotnik laid out grand plans for Stone to follow. He needed to ingratiate himself into Green Hills' society and slowly take it over from the inside. Stone resolves to do this by applying for a job at a local café, although Karen, the manager, and her fellow assistant manager, George, do not take too kindly to him. Robotnik's manifesto tells him to watch out for several types of people, such as would-be wheeler-dealers, bootlickers, strivers, and commonplace drones, which, in Stone's eyes, actually fit the description for all of the employees in the café. Stone prepares one of his steamed goat milk lattes for Karen (who is considered to be the wheeler-dealer), only for her to spit it back in his face, finding it disgusting and claims that it tasted like cottage cheese. While wondering what sort of freak would drink something like this, Karen orders Stone to clean up the mess.

Robotnik's manifesto had actually mentioned not to make the mistake of ingratiating himself to his lessers, as the only solution for faulty programming was deletion and replacement. Another employee, Brayden (who is considered the commonplace drone), tells Stone that it is Karen's world and he is just living in it now. He suggests listening to his podcast, of which he has 122 episodes about the deep social themes of 80s buddy action movies. Stone declines the offer as he had no time for the prattle of the masses. He decides that within a week, he would control everyone and everything in the place, forcing Karen to bow to his power. Brayden finds this to be a weird thing to say. Another coworker named Tina (who is considered to be the striver) asks Stone if he could cover a shift for her over the weekend while she goes to a family function. Stone accepts the request. Tina had actually lied and went to the beach on the Sunday instead. However, Stone took action and had crab-like Badniks dismantle her car. On Monday, as there was no sign of Tina, Karen tells Stone not to misplace a single dollar in the register.

George (who is considered to be the bootlicker) tells Stone that he is not fooling anyone with his "suck look" and says that if he steps out of line, he will knock him down a few pegs. Stone replies that his only goal is to serve the store with a few additional upgrades. On Tuesday, as George is just leaving his house, he finds three Badniks swoop in and kidnap him. On Wednesday, Karen notes how the employees are dropping like flies and tells Stone that he needs to pick up the slack, not wanting production to slow down. Robotnik's manifesto had mentioned that as he reached the endgame, mercy was something for filthy animals, but strategy may require convenient alliances. Stone began to find this in Brayden. He tells Stone that something spooky is going on in the town, to which the agent says that he is sure that he has not crossed the wrong people...yet.

On Thursday, Karen is arrested at her own home for money laundering, which she was actually framed for. On Friday, she receives a phone call from Stone, telling her that it was a shame that an anonymous tip proved Karen's crimes to be an open-and-shut case. He tells her not to worry about the coffee shop as it was in much better hands now. On Saturday, Stone is asked by Brayden if he needed anything else. He says that as the shop was now in working order, they would need to install some new equipment, as well as take on a new name. The last part of Robotnik's manifesto noted that if Stone played the "rubes" against one another to the letter of his scheme, the only ones left standing will be ready to fall in line. It is only with this will Stone be able to move onto Robotnik Manifesto: Phase Two.

Always Bet On Red

Synopsis

Knuckles the Echidna, the last echidna of his kind, is on a search for Sonic the Hedgehog as he believes he is the key to everything. He is investigating the most desolate places of the galaxy for him as he is his one chance to restore what was lost. Through a Ring, the echidna arrives on a slightly mountainous planet with a clear volcano nearby. It was said that his people used to track in packs. However, alone or not, Knuckles is determined to find him. He mentions how his hunt must be quick depending on how fast people say Sonic is, but declares that nothing can escape him once he has dug in. Knuckles scales up a section near a mountain, only to fall off when the volcano erupts. He lands on ground far below. With this, he suggests that no one could survive in the area, not even hunters or scavengers. Two scavengers exit from a Ring and find the echidna struggling to get back on his feet. They restrain him and take him away through their Ring.

In another area called Casino Night, the players are welcomed by a voice over the intercom and they are told of a game that would be happening soon that they could wager on. Knuckles was imprisoned within an arena and is stated to be the challenger of the evening. His opponent is a giant, two-headed, six-armed, lobster-like alien. The monster immediately attacks Knuckles with its pincer, allowing the echidna to follow up and wrap his chains around it. However, Knuckles gets frustrated and as he is lifted up by the monster, he powers-up, breaking free of his chains, and scales up his opponent. Once Knuckles reaches one of the heads, he delivers a devastating punch that destroys it, putting it out of commission. For Knuckles, it felt good to beat the monster, but the win that he wanted was still out of his reach. He states that if he really wishes to capture Sonic, he may need to betray his own instincts as it is one job he may not be able to do on his own. Knuckles wins a bag of Rings for his prize and offers it to the scavengers, requesting them to help him with finding something.

Synopsis

Scanning for chaos energy on his Miles Electric, Tails hops through a Ring to travel to the Green Hill Zone in an attempt to find Sonic. The young fox travels to Sonic's childhood house where he grew up, saying how no one has been to the house in years out of respect. Tails notes the place as sacred ground as it was where Longclaw fell and finds it hard to believe that Sonic was a young kid like himself when it happened; however, with his powers, Sonic was not an average child anyway. Picking up a new match on his Miles Electric by scanning Sonic's childhood drawing of himself, Tails states that he will be able to find where Sonic went with it. However, it was getting difficult to tell as he was getting some transwarp interference as he tries to scan different worlds. Noting that tracing a single signature across the galaxy was like finding a needle in 10,000 haystacks, Tails is confident that his modifications will allow him to narrow it down to just a few planets.

Arriving in a new area, Tails says that it is one that most of the civilized world avoids. However, he needed to check as the energy there was strong. Tails runs afoul of Rava the Destroyer and almost falls into lava, realizing he picked up on the wrong energy signature. Not wanting to deal with the lizard, Tails flies out of his reach while the Rava curses him. The fox flies inside the ancient ruins trying to figure out what is going on. He realizes that it is not the energy he is tracking that is causing the interference, but it is because someone is following him. Due to this, Tails decides to speed up his search to test if they can track him as well as he can track Sonic. Entering into the Spring Yard Zone, Tails finds there to be something chaotic about the area and wonders if Sonic was actually there or was it just that the laws of physics do not apply. Traveling to the Aquatic Ruin Zone, Tails dives into the sea to lose track of his pursuers. He cannot find Sonic on this world either, but just leftover chaos energy from when these places were turned into ruins.

Tails decides to go someplace where the things are alive to have a better chance at finding Sonic. Arriving at Hill Top Zone, Tails still finds no sign of the hedgehog. Trying to think deeper, the fox consults his Miles Electric to look at strong chaos energy signatures within warpable distances. He sees that there is an unusually erratic spike at an unhabited Mushroom Planet, as well as a signature coming from a backwater planet named "Earth". Realizing if he did not find Sonic soon, his pursuer would find him first. With this, Tails hops in a Ring heading to Earth. Just as he leaves, another Ring portal is opened to Hill Top Zone by scavengers. Knuckles, who was being guided by them, tells the scavengers that it is another dead end and whatever they were tracking was not the enemy. He tells them that he has one more place where they can find a lead.

Synopsis

On the Mushroom Planet, Dr. Robotnik reflects on his situation and remarks that a lesser man would die in such a place; however, he boldly proclaims that he will be home by Christmas. He believes that Sonic will be thinking he has defeated him or that he is better than any other human on Earth. Robotnik strives to show not just Sonic, but everyone else his genius, and plots to survive on the planet no matter what. Wading through the area, the doctor finds a blue mushroom and decides to taste it, which sends him into a temporary trance. He decides to start collecting blue mushrooms, believing it would sustain him long enough to rebuild his Eggpod. He comes across a cave filled with blue mushrooms and attempts to take one. After he picks it, a small piranha-like organism grows from the break in the mushroom and bites his finger. The doctor fights back, insulting the creature for not obeying the food chain. Several more of the mushroom creatures wake up and show hostility to Robotnik, with another organism biting another one of his fingers.

Noticing his finger bleeding, Robotnik realizes that this situation could be problematic and declares that he refuses to be consumed by the likes of them. Angrily picking more mushrooms, he claims that he is the hunter and they are the prey. The creatures begin to swarm on the doctor, holding him in place. His head breaks out of the hold, still refusing to give up. The doctor soon comes face-to-face with the largest creature of the bunch. While he is not initially intimidated, the creature delivers a large roar at Robotnik. Revealing a trick up his sleeve, Robotnik attacks the creature with a makeshift flamethrower and extends this to the smaller creatures. He declares that he will destroy anything that gets in his way on the planet, and then he will return to Earth to exact his revenge on Sonic.

Dr. Robotnik (manifesto): Humans believe themselves to be individuals, but they are every bit as programmable as the average toy monkey. It is vital to determine where these cogs have been placed in the program's hierarchy in order to properly use them. First there are the would-be wheeler-dealers, convinced of their own superiority despite their demonstrable lack of any actual skills.

Karen: The pay is absolute minimum wage and not one cent more. And no benefits.

Assistant Manager: And as assistant manager, I get my cut of all tips.

Karen: Think you can crank out cups o' joe during peak rush for that deal? Because that's the name of the game here--producing.

Knuckles: They say my people used to track in packs... But alone or not, I know I can find him. My hunt must be quick--as fast as they say he is. But nothing can escape me once I've dug in.

Tails: You need to find him , Tails. No matter what. They say that no one has visited here for years out of respect. This is where Sonic was raised. But it's so much more than that. This is sacred ground... The place where Longclaw fell. Hard to believe he was just a kid like me when it happened. Though with his powers, Sonic wasn't like any kid ever.
